Since my last post, we were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Holly's lambs.  As soon as I hit save on that post, Alberto, Noelia and I all went up to the barn to just check on everyone, especially Holly.  I had checked on her earlier that morning and had determined that she wouldn't lamb to later that day, possibly the next.

We moved at a pretty care free pace, as we weren't expecting anything out the norm. Noelia took off running in the field with our guard dog, Meadow.  Alberto went around the back.  I went in the barn to take a peek.  And wouldn't you believe it, Holly had her first lamb already a quarter of the way out!!!  I think my heart skipped a beat.

It was one of the most peaceful events that I have ever seen.  Holly was calm and determined. She had a job to do, and she did it efficiently.  The first lamb was out in no time!  I quickly cleaned out the mouth and nose and then brought her close to Holly so she could begin the instinctual "first bath."  It's awesome to see how nature just knows. This was Holly's first lambing and she knew exactly what to do, like she had been doing it for years.  She began licking off her baby, nickering through licks.  Such a sweet sound, as to say, "Welcome to the world, little one.  You are mine."  And baby began bleating back to mama.

Not even five minutes later, lamb number two was on his way out.  And the same tenderness shown to the first lamb, was shown to the second.  Truly a small miracle to be a part of.  I am so thankful that Alberto suggested that we go up, because otherwise I don't think I would have, as I didn't expect her to lamb so soon.

Now these two little, naughty lambs are over a week old and thriving! They are constantly jumping and springing all over.  The other day, one hopped on Holly's back and started pawing at her, as if she was trying to make a nest of wool.  And Holly, already a wonderful mama, didn't even seem to mind.
